What is is double glazing?
Double glazing is a very simple solution to many common problems associated with modern building design. Too often, homes, shopping centres, office buildings, apartment buildings and hospitals are expensive to heat and cool. Largely, this is because of heat loss through windows. To combat this, buildings are often fitted with expensive curtains or blinds on the inside. This does little as the fabrics do not seal around the window allowing the transfer of heat to let dollars go out the window.
Double glazing solves this problem. By simply trapping an inert gas, argon, between two panes of glass heat transfer is minimised thereby substantially reducing heating and cooling costs. One of argon’s features is that it does not conduct heat well. This means it can be cold outside and warm inside without the interior heat escaping through the window. The reverse is also the case – heat from outside will not come in through the window in summer and make your home uncomfortably hot.
